Dress Rehearsal
Following is the schedule for dress rehearsal at NHS. Please ensure your dance arrives BEFORE their first scheduled rehearsal time, in costume, with hair and makeup performance-ready. When they have rehearsed all their pieces onstage, they are free to leave. The band room will be open for our use as a dressing area, and will be used by the girls. Boys will have the stage left dressing room. We can leave things at the school overnight, as no one else will be using the space that weekend.
Class assistants, please plan to be present when your little ones are having their rehearsal.

Program Shoutouts
Bringing back program shoutouts! For $20, you can purchase a 1/4 page space for a message and photo (if desired) dedicated to your favorite dancer. Tell the grandparents and family friends! The charge can be posted to your DSP account, or paid in cash or by paypal. Email all materials to [email protected]. Shoutouts will be printed in black and white. We must have all materials no later than May 15.
Volunteer Jobs
We need some parent (or sibling) volunteers to help things run smoothly!
Class Chaperones - Need a parent to sit with each class in the auditorium as they wait for their turn to dance, and deliver them backstage when their time comes.
Backstage Help - Need 2-3 people to assist backstage with curtain pulling, herding little ones, helping with costume changes, etc.
Front of House - Need 2-3 people to man the ticket table. Expecting the majority of tickets to be sold online ahead of time, so this job is mainly directing people to their seats and overseeing signups to receive video or photos.
Sound/Light Board - Need one person to man the booth and follow directions given over the headset.
Load-In - Need 2-4 people to help transport the marley floor from the studio to the auditorium, roll it out and tape it down on the stage. Heavy lifting is involved.
Strike - Need 2-4 people to help roll the marley and transport it back to the studio, roll it out and tape it down in the dance room. Heavy lifting is involved.

Hair And Makeup
Because we have a lot of costumes with hats this year, all students in Blue level and above need a low bun with a right-side part. Hip Hop, Teal/Black Tap, and Modern will have a low ponytail (if you are in ballet, all you need to do is take out the bobby pins at intermission).

On the day of the show...
Please deliver your dancer to the backstage area no later than their indicated call time. Earlier is also fine. No parents in the backstage area who are not designated chaperones. We will make sure your child has all the help he or she needs to be ready, and they will be supervised.
To help us keep tabs on where everyone is, please wait to collect your dancer until AFTER the show. We will have a curtain call, and we want everyone to have the opportunity to come back onstage to take a bow. They can be collected from the stage or the dressing area after the house lights come up.
The performance will be filmed and will be available by digital download at $10 each.
What else does my dancer need?
ALL female ballet dancers need ballet flats that match their skin color. Tights are being ordered for you (recital only; you are responsible for your tights for Nutcracker) and will be distributed along with costumes near the show date.
ALL male ballet dancers need black ballet flats.
MODERN dancers will be dancing in bare feet. No toenail polish, please.
ALL female dancers need their hair in a secure, low ballet bun with a right-side part, using gel, hairspray, bobby pins, and a hairnet. Microbraids are acceptable if they are long enough to be put into a low bun centered on the back of the head. Please, no visible unnatural colors, beads, barrettes, or other adornments.
NO nail polish may be visible onstage. Any nail polish seen backstage will be removed before the dancer is allowed onstage. This includes toenail polish for those dancing in bare feet. And no, we don’t care how much that manicure cost. Bet your recital costumes cost more.
NO jewelry that is not officially part of a costume. Please leave sentimental/valuable jewelry with a family member in the audience or at home. We find a piece of jewelry backstage at least once per show.
NO visible underwear If undergarments are a necessity, please make sure it can be completely hidden underneath all costumes (see your teachers if you need some ideas). If we don't see anything, we won't say anything.
Glasses should ideally be taken off before going onstage. Chaperones will mind glasses and return them when the dancer comes offstage.
