Dress Rehearsal

Saturday May 16, times TBD
Please have your dancer at the auditorium, in costume with hair and makeup done BEFORE the scheduled rehearsal time for their class. As soon as all of their pieces have been rehearsed, they are free to leave. The band room will be open for our use as a dressing area (girls), and we can leave things there and backstage (boys and adults) overnight, as no one else will be using the space that weekend.

On the day of the show...

Sunday May 17
Call Times
1:00pm - Burgundy level, Adults
1:30pm - Pink, Blue, Purple +chaperones

Please deliver your dancer to the backstage area no later than their indicated call time. Earlier is also fine. The building is supposed to be open for us at 12:00. No parents in the backstage area who are not designated chaperones. We will make sure your child has all the help he or she needs to be ready, and they will be supervised.

Please do not save seats for performers. They will have a designated block of seats in the auditorium to enjoy the show with their class. To help us keep tabs on where everyone is, please wait to collect your dancer until AFTER the show. We will have a curtain call, and we want everyone to have the opportunity to come back onstage to take a bow. They can be collected from the stage or the dressing area after the house lights come up.

The performance will be filmed and DVDs will be available at $10 each.

What else does my dancer need?

ALL female ballet dancers need ballet flats that match their skin color. Tights are being ordered for you and will be distributed along with costumes near the show date.

ALL male ballet dancers need black ballet flats, black tights, and a dance belt.

MODERN dancers will be dancing in bare feet. No toenail polish, please.

ALL female dancers need their hair in a secure ballet bun with gel, hairspray, bobby pins, and a hairnet. Microbraids are acceptable if they are long enough to be put into a bun centered on the back of the head. Please, no visible unnatural colors, beads, barrettes, or other adornments.

ALL female dancers need the following stage makeup: foundation to match skin tone (for ages 12 and up), black mascara (for ages 8 and up), dark brown eyeshadow, white eyeshadow, black eyeliner, pink blush, red lipstick. Dancers age 12 and over may opt for false eyelashes in lieu of mascara if desired.

ALL male dancers need the following stage makeup: foundation to match skin tone, black eyeliner, bronzer.

NO nail polish may be visible onstage. Any nail polish seen backstage will be removed before the dancer is allowed onstage. This includes toenail polish for those dancing in bare feet. And no, we don’t care how much that manicure cost. Bet your recital costumes cost more.

NO jewelry that is not officially part of a costume. Please leave sentimental/valuable jewelry with a family member in the audience or at home.

NO underwear should be worn under tights. Girls' dance tights are designed to function as underwear. If a bra is a necessity, please make sure it can be completely hidden underneath all costumes (see Kara if you need some ideas). Boys in ballet should wear a dance belt with their tights.

Glasses should ideally be taken off before going onstage. Chaperones will mind glasses and return them when the dancer comes offstage.
